![]() ![]() For gamers who like exploring fantasy worlds or defining stories with their own choices, however, Xbox is starting to look like the console of choice. ![]() It's likely that Sony will continue to prepare major releases to combat the upcoming onslaught of Xbox exclusives, even if the multi-platform titles highlighted in the recent PlayStation Showcase advertised Xbox as much as PlayStation. Although nothing of the game has been yet showcased beyond a mountainous landscape and title card, many fans will be waiting with bated breath until more information on the next journey into Tamriel is available. Elder Scrolls 6 could last a decade for fans intent on exploring its secrets and eventual expansions, following up on the legacy of Skyrim's long-standing popularity across multiple console generations. Ultimately, however, The Elder Scrolls 6 may be the biggest card that Xbox holds, particularly when it comes to their slate of upcoming fantasy RPGs. The upcoming fantasy RPGs for Xbox finally promise serious competition for these games, offering a comparable focus on narrative while leaning into a degree of player agency that most PlayStation flagships lack. Franchises like God of War, Horizon, and Marvel's Spider-Man have followed down a similar path, delivering an emphasis on characters and story alongside polished exploration and combat. Developer Naughty Dog leaned into cinematic storytelling with the Uncharted games before doubling down with The Last of Us, which focused on weaving an unusually emotional arc through the gameplay. Recent years have positioned PlayStation as a leader in narrative AAA games, establishing a legacy that Xbox hasn't yet significantly threatened. Each of these games offers individual points of attraction to hook gamers into its respective possibilities, making a case that gamers who stick to PlayStation won't be able to have comparable experiences without turning to the Xbox Series X/S. Once Bethesda's Xbox exclusive Starfield comes out, the studio's development priorities will shift to The Elder Scrolls 6, another flagship release of the same genre. More powerful spells, however, will require the use of both hands. Two of the major standouts from the Xbox Games Showcase are the event-opener Fable and Avowed, both of which promise to bring fantasy RPG worlds to life on the Xbox Series X/S. There’s the option of having one hand with magic and the other with a blade. You’ll be able to wield two-handed weapons like bows or a pair of daggers. Apparently, it’ll also include “multiple class playstyles” with the addition of a two-handed combat system. The report claims it’ll be using a similar but enhanced version of The Outer Worlds‘ engine. Indeed, the report says that the game is Obsidian’s answer to Skyrim in a similar manner to how The Outer Worlds was their take on Fallout. As previously detailed, it’ll take place in the world of Eora but with a first person view, rather than that game’s isometric viewpoint. To recap, the game is set in the World of Eternity universe, last seen in 2018 RPG Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. They go so far as to claim Obsidian have the game almost in a playable alpha state. According to them Avowed has “many mechanics and core gameplay pillars” already implemented. ![]() The details come from a new report from Windows Central that claims to have spoken to “sources familiar with internal plans” for the game. Upcoming Xbox exclusive RPG Avowed has been rather quiet since it was announced last year, but a few new titbits of info have emerged to whet our appetite. ![]()
